Bradley Platoon's Annual Xmas Fund Raising Walk 13 Dec 09
Report by Lt Col JEV Jones
C/Sgt Dave Hewitt, Platoon Commander at Bradley has again organised and run their Annual Fun Raising Walk to the Jubilee Tower at the summit of Moel Famau, the highest point on the Clwydian Range.
The Jubilee Tower was built in 1810 to commemorate the golden jubilee of George III. Designed by Thomas Harrison of Chester, it was to be an Egyptian styled obelisk, built in three stages. The tower was never completed however and in 1862 a strong storm blew it down. It was partially removed to make it safe and what you see today are the sturdy remains of the Tower.
The Tower sits on the route of Offa's Dyke Path and is visited by thousands of hardy visitors every year, affording fantastic views across North east Wales and the coastal areas around the Irish Sea.
Bradley Platoon consisted of 13 cadets and an additional adult instructor who were fundraising for the ABF and also to help pay for cadet skiing lessons at Llandudno.
Mostyn platoon and Rhos Platoons also took advantage the actions by C/Sgt Hewitt, C/Sgt Bernie Stillings and her team of 4 adults and 17 cadets from Rhos Platoon are raising funds for Help the Heroes, whilst C/Sgt Andy Jones and his 5 cadets (in fancy dress) were fund raising to support local activities.
The weather, after many weeks of rain was extremely kind to everyone, a perfect day for walking, providing clear views from the Jubilee Tower. Everyone had a fantastic day out.
