CADET CAMBRIAN PATROL COMPETITION 2009

Report by 2Lt Branwen McBride

Gold medal winning Junior A Team, Led by Sgt Owen E - Llangefni.

The year 2009; the first time Clwyd and Gwynedd had combined to create amalgamated Cambrian teams, and the first year every team came away having won a medal!

Just a fortnight after camp we all met up in Kinmel WETC for Cambrian Patrol Weekend One. Almost forty cadets turned up, all keen to prove that they were the best in the Battalion.

Myself and Captain Prangnell took over the running of the junior teams, creating a challenging programme designed to train our cadets to achieve the very best they could – whilst having fun on the way! It paid off with nearly all the cadets attending all three weekends and some of them even passing one and two star on the way. With masses of motivation and teamwork our teams marched to victory on the weekend of the competition with Junior A winning an awesome gold and Junior B doing incredibly well and winning a silver medal.

Final Results

JUNIOR A – GOLD

JUNIOR B – SILVER

SENIOR A – SILVER

SENIOR B – BRONZE

CSM Lewis R of Holyhead platoon also shone on the Cambrian Patrol this year, not only leading Senior A to a silver medal (6 points short of gold – ouch!) but even winning best Senior Patrol Commander out of all the Battalions who attended the event! This is an amazing achievement for any cadet and surely, one of the highlights of CSM Lewis’ career in the ACF.

Junior B’s orange tags were soon replaced by silver medals!

Senior A Team were another good example of teamwork being the key to success. It was noticeable this year how well the teams had bonded and what a difference it made to the results – showing the Cambrian Patrol is not all about military skills!

To win their medals both teams had three weekends of quality training overseen by Major J Bowles.

The junior cadets were trained by Capt Prangnell M, 2Lt McBride B, CSgt Stillings B, Sgt Lloyd M, Sgt Richards J, Sgt Bradley S and Sgt Hill J.

The senior cadets were trained by AUO Burrows P, AUO Mooney L, AUO Elliot A, CSM Warden C, CSgt Lloyd T and Sgt Rowlands S.
